At the conference held on 14-04- 2008, organization committee of the Festival
« Tamburitza Fest 2008, Deronje» made a decision to announce an
OPEN COMPETITION
FOR PARTICIPATION OF TAMBURITZA ORCHESTRAS AT THE FESTIVAL
“TAMBURITZA FEST 2008, DERONJE”
Domestic and foreign orchestras are eligible to participate under the following criteria:
- The applying tamburitza orchestra must not have more than 12 members
- Performance must be vocal-instrumental
- The applying tamburitza orchestra must play traditional tamburitza instruments when performing, and maximum two acoustic musical instruments may be played with them (violin, accordion, clarinet and other musical instruments commonly used with tamburitza in the area the orchestra comes from)
- An individual (singer or instrumentalist) may participate only in one orchestra
- The participants shall perform a program which may be consisted of:
a) Free program in which the participants perform compositions of all genres, as well as combination of compositions such as parts of songs, refrains and likewise, which are composed in one musical entity
b) Author’s composition, which is not mandatory, however if it is part of the ensemble’s program it will be performed at the semi-final and at the final
- Participants who perform an author’s composition are obliged to perform new, original composition which will be separately evaluated by the jury of the Festival “ Tamburitza Fest 2008” and will compete in the category the best composition of the Festival
- The orchestras that perform author’s composition are obliged to submit the following information:
Title of the composition
Name of the author of the composition
Name of the author of the composition’s text
Name of the author of the arrangement
- The author’s composition must not be published or performed at other festivals or public events.
- Scheduled time of performance for all contestants is 15 minutes the organizer reserves the right to change time of performance depending on the circumstances
Method of Registration
The orchestras are obliged to submit their applications to the Commission in writing, at the address:
Bulevar Jaše Tomića 1, Novi Sad 21000,
The application should comprise the following information:
1. Biography of the tamburitza orchestra. Mandatory elements of the biography are: full names and surnames of the performers, indicated type of the instrument and name of the individual who plays the indicated instrument, indicated full name and surname of the contact person, his/her phone number, address and e-mail.
2. Text of the composition and script notes or audio recording.
Name and Surname of author of the music and the text. List of all songs that will be performed by the candidates at the festival. It is preferable to submit translations of the songs in foreign language to Serbian.
The organizer reserves right to chose and eliminate compositions that are not in the spirit of the Festival.
3. Audio or video recording of the orchestra which may be recorded at a live concert and does not have to be made in a studio.
It is necessary to submit the recording in audio CD or MP3 format. Video recordings should be submitted on DVD, AVI or similar formats.
4. Photograph of the band on CD. All members of the band should be clearly seen at the submitted photograph.
Material received based on the Open Competition for Participation of Tamburitza Orchestras at the Festival “Tamburitza Fest 2008” will not be published or announced in public in any form and will be used exclusively by the Commission during the selection process. The same material will not influence the position of the orchestra at the competition or any other decision of the jury. Commission which reviews the application has the right to eliminate from the competition those orchestras that do not fit the character of the Festival. The Commission will not return the submitted material to the performers.
Method of Evaluation
Besides the vocal-instrumental abilities and the author’s composition the jury will evaluate the originality of the performance, originality of the repertoire selection, as well as the stage performance and the appearance of the ensemble.
Members of the jury will be selected from the prominent artists in various areas (musical editors, composers, ethno musicologists, instrumentalists, vocal soloists, actors…and other prominent citizens of other professions who are familiar with this kind of music).
Members of the jury will be selected to represent many professions.
Reward Fund
Organizer of the “ Tamburitza Fest 2008”, based on the decision of the professional jury, will award the following prizes:
- 5000 $ for the Best Orchestra at the Festival
- 2000 $ for the Best Composition at the Festival
- 1000 $ for the Best Prima Tamburitza at the Festival
- Opportunity for the Most Perspective Orchestra to record and publish a CD in the production of PGP RTS
Deadline for the application is June 01, 2008 until 10 p.m.
Applications must be submitted personally or by mail at the address:

in an envelope with the notification
PRIJAVA ZA UČEŠĆE NA TAKMIČENJU
The Commission will review all the received applications latest until June 05, 2008, and will inform all the orchestras on the results of the processed applications latest until June 10, 2008.
The orchestras which qualify for the competition shall be obliged to confirm their participation to the Organizer latest until June 15, 2008.
The Organizer will provide, at its own expense, accommodation for the participants from abroad, and meals for all participants during the competition. |
